11:45 S. Robinson (President) called the meeting to order.

1. Approval of agenda (moving up Nominations Committee report).

Courtland/Dagenais. Carried.

2. Approval of minutes of AGM, June 19, 1999.

- minor corrections to the 1998 minutes were indicated: 2d) The dissertation award winner for 1998 was Sandra Kouritzen; others were runners up.

The following names were spelled incorrectly - Joel Yan; Boychuk; Fleming.

Hurren/Johnston. Carried.

3. Treasurer's report.

In the absence of Mary Maguire, President Sam Robinson spoke to this report.

Motion to approve the treasurer's report: Haig-Brown/Courtland. Carried.

4. ARTS Special Interest Group.

Bernard Andrews spoke to the newly developed constitution for the ARTS SIG. Approval in principle for the development of this SIG was given by CACS last year. There have been 11 ARTS presentations at the current conference.

Motion to approve the constitution for the ARTS SIG: Andrews/Cameron. Carried.

5. Nominations Committee Report.

Celia Haig Brown presented the report of the Nominations Committee:

Membership (1 yr) Diane Dagenais (SFU)

There were no nominations from the floor.

Motion that nominations cease: Haig Brown/Johnston. Carried.

The slate of officers was declared elected.

 

Awards Ceremony

Ingrid Johnston, chair of the Awards Committee, invited Joel Yan (Stats Canada) and Rita Irwin (CACS) to present the Statistics Canada Prize for Curriculum Studies. The 2000 winners were:

Grazietta Mazzone and Michela Vitela (OISE/ U of T) for Professor Sandra McEwan; and Lorna Walker (University of Alberta) for Professor Norma Nocente.

Antoinette Gagné presented the 1999 Outstanding Dissertation Award to George Richardson (U of Alberta,Terry Carson). This award had not been presented earlier, because of short deadlines.

Ingrid Johnston presented the 2000 Outstanding Dissertation Award to join winners Renée Norman (UBC, Carl Leggo) and J.P. Couture (U of Alberta, Terry Carson).

6. CACS Constitution.

Approval of changes to the CACS constitution.
LaPlante/Andrews. Carried.

7. Program.

Sam Robinson offered thanks to Julia Ellis in her absence. The CACS membership is well aware of the work Julia has carried out on behalf of the Association.

8. Publications.

- Electronic newsletter. B.Andrews reported that there have been cost savings in switching from paper to the electronic medium. He will e-mail newsletters in the next volume, as well as posting them on the website.

- Electronic Journal of Curriculum Studies. There will be continuing discussion on this topic.

9. President's Report.

CSSE has suggested some changes in deadlines for conference proposal submissions.

June 15 - Preliminary call.

August 1 - Call for proposals.

October 15 - Proposal deadline.

CJE is looking for good submissions. There is no backlog of papers.

CSSE has discussed publishing the program on CD Rom.

President Robinson extended thanks to Mary Maguire and Julia Ellis, whose terms of office are completed this year. He also thanked other members of the CACS board for their efforts this year.
