Minutes

Members Present: B.W. Andrews (Ottawa), Carol Beynon (University of Western Ontario), Kit Grauer (University of British Columbia), Charlene Morton (University of Prince Edward Island), Rena Upitis (Queen’s)

Guests: Laurie Doloff, Kari Veblen, Betty-Anne Younkers

Acceptance of Agenda: Agenda accepted (Moved by Upitis; seconded by Beynon)

Previous Minutes: Corrections to the spelling of names to the minutes of 2^nd Annual General Meeting, May 22, 2001 were undertaken (Upitis; Grauer).

Business arising from the minutes:

• Members attending the annual general meeting will be contacted by e-mail to review the minutes for any required corrections; and
• Minutes of the ARTS/SCEA annual general meeting will be posted on the website through the CACS President (Grauer; Andrews).

ARTS/SCEA Advocacy:

• The President reported that there were 9 presentations in 2000; 9 in 2001; and 7 in 2002; and that increasing membership and presentations would be a priority for the new executive.
• Members articulated a need to consider awards for student submissions, publication of conference proceedings, and recognition for outstanding arts education research.
• The role of the arts in education and the role of the arts educator was also discussed.

Election

• President – Rena Upitis (Queen’s) was nominated (Grauer; Morton) and acclaimed.
• Vice-President – Carol Beynon (UWO) was nominated (Andrews, Grauer) and acclaimed.

Acknowledgement

• Bernie Andrews, outgoing President, acknowledged the hard work and effort of Alex de Cosson (UBC) in his work as Vice-President and Program Chair. He also wished the new executive every success and offered his assistance when needed.
• Kit Grauer (UBC) thanked Bernie for his role as founding President of the SIG.

Adjournment

• Moved by Upitis and seconded by Grauer.
