CAFE Service Award
About
The Canadian Association of Foundations of Education (CAFE) seeks nominations for the CAFE Service Award. The purpose of this award is to recognize individuals who have made major contributions through teaching, research and/or professional service to the disciplines and areas that come under the rubric of the foundations of education. These disciplines are the history, philosophy, sociology and anthropology of education, but also include other humanities and social science disciplines that contribute to educational theory.
Colleagues and students who are members of CAFE/ACÉFÉ are encouraged to submit names and résumés of individuals who have made major contributions to the foundations of education in Canada. It is permissible to solicit supporting letters for a nominee from persons who are able to attest to the outstanding nature of the contributions made. Such letters must be included with the nominator’s submission and sent directly to the Chair of the committee.
Five distinguished Canadian academics have previously received this award. If a worthy nominee is selected, the award will be announced at the CSSE annual General Meeting or in the CSSE News following the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences in May.
Eligibility
- Candidates must have made major contributions through service and scholarship to the foundations of education in Canada over an extended period of time.
- Candidates must be Canadian or have worked in Canadian institutions.
- Nominators must be members in good standing of CAFE. However, those who submit letters in support of nominees need not be members of CAFE.

Submission Requirements
A letter of recommendation and a copy of the candidate’s résumé, together with any supporting letters of reference, must be submitted to:
